I think out of the games you listed DA:O is unrivaled in terms of production value and narrative. But I played Dragon Age Origins which some people say was the spiritual successor to BG at the time it was released. Though it's a spoiler full discussion, so beware. This is an excellent deep dive into its narrative. It's a bit more streamlined, but the hook there is the narrative. I enjoyed it far more than Kingmaker and POE1 & POE2. However, this feeling passed and after a few hours, I found that I enjoyed the game immensely.Įven though it's not your list I thought 'Tyranny' by the same studio of POE was a great game. I thought Tartuccio's portrait was out of place and just downloaded it from google images. The presentation felt disjointed to me in the few hours. In terms of narrative, I only just started WOTR. So in terms of mechanics, I think the pathfinder games are just overwhelming to new players. I made a post about a year ago in this sub about my personal experience and frustration with Pathfinder when not knowing the rules. ![]() And yes, there are some load screens and tooltips but you need to research the rules to have fun. The Pathfinder games assume you know the rules. That is, you can just pick them up and play them without having a two-year degree in D&D rules.
